Millets or nutri-cereals have emerged as a climate resilient and nutritive crop .United Nations has declared year 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’. The unanimously adopted resolution, initiated by India, was co-sponsored by 70 countries.Millets are nutritionally superior as their grains contain high amount of proteins, essential amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. Millets are also gaining ground as a healthy option for those suffering from lifestyle diseases. For ICRISAT the Hyderabad-based ‘International crops research institute for semi-arid tropics’ , millets and sorghum are «smart foods of the 21st century» which are «good for you , good for the planet and good for the farmer”.
