Millets or nutri-cereals have emerged as a climate resilient and nutritive crop .United Nations has declared year 2023 as the āInternational Year of Milletsā. The unanimously adopted resolution, initiated by India, was co-sponsored by 70 countries.Millets are nutritionally superior as their grains contain high amount of proteins, essential amino acids, minerals, and vitamins. Millets are also gaining ground as a healthy option for those suffering from lifestyle diseases. For ICRISAT the Hyderabad-based āInternational crops research institute for semi-arid tropicsā , millets and sorghum are “smart foods of the 21st century” which are “good for you , good for the planet and good for the farmerā.
